Restaurants
in Rome
There are many ways to eat good food in Rome. I shall start by describing
the cheapest and most convenient.
Pizza al Taglio
Int these pizza houses (pizzerias), you can get take-away sliced of pizza,
to be eaten cold (fredda) or warmed up (scaldata). These can be a very
tasty snack when you are a little bit peckish, or in a rush. They are
priced according to their weight, and are typically 3 Euro for a slice
Pizzeria
Alternatively you can go to sit down in a pizzeria, and have a pizza rotonda
(round pizza). These are always hot, straight from the wood burning oven,
(forno al legno), and cost from 6 Euro upwards. Avoid the pizzerias on
the main piazzas as these are usually overpriced, (but you get nice views).
The Roman pizza is much thinner than the "deep pan" type found
elsewhere, so expect the pizza to be very thin but too wide for your plate.
Hosterias
These are typicaly family run restaruants offereing a variety of local
food. Sometimes these serve pizzas in the evening only.
Ristoranti
These are often quite expensive, but the quality of the food is good.
McDonald's
A good place to get a free map of Rome. Get the map and leave immediately.
